Volunteering

CAC collaborates with many organizations and institutions outside of Rice to reach out and help improve the cancer-survivor communities around Houston. Volunteer opportunities can range from administrative services, to event organizations, to direct patient interactions. Several ongoing community involvements include:
  • becoming a part-time college volunteer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
  • hosting activities for pediatric cancer patients at the Ronald McDonald House
  • helping with the organization and services at American Cancer Society events
  • assembling navigation-care-packages for cancer survivors

VOLUNTEER PLANNING COMMITTEE
We are always appreciative of member involvement and would love to hear what our members have to say, so the planning committee is a way to get the members not only involved in the act but also the planning of volunteering. We hope by gathering a group of people who care about helping the cancer survivor community through volunteering, we could in our meetings form:
  • a 'creative brain' to come up with fun ideas for activities that will translate into amazing experiences for the kids at RMH
  • provide leadership experiences for the committee members, through delegation of small leadership tasks (e.g. corresponding with Ronald McDonald House, collaborating with RSVP, getting supplies, organizing volunteers and rides, etc)
  • encourage and support new volunteering ideas
We would love to hear your feedback, so one of the first things we would ask of each member is what you wish to get out of the committee so we can structure the committee accordingly. We will never make you do more than what you signed up for, and we will try our best to meet your expectations if you let us know your opinions.
If you're interested, sign up to be on the committee!

Some volunteer works require a minimum period of commitment, while others are organized for an one-time event only. Please check with Upcoming Events or with Yian Lo for the latest opportunities and for more information.
